Have you ever been in a difficult situation in your life no matter if it was a family problem or a problem your job or school we all have been put in this situation or will be. Both Victor Martinez in his book “Parrot in the Oven” and Kesha in her song “Praying” Shows this emotional moment that every human experiences and also shows how difficult it is to get over these things but also how important it is to find peace and forget about it. In “Parrot in the Oven” Manny is not like the other in his family and they don’t like that. Similar to the song “Praying” because it is saying how you have to be able to forgive and find peace with the person or thing and yourself. In both text, we learn that learning to deal with emotions is important to the everyday life of a human.
A common theme in both texts is that dealing with emotions will make you a better person in the long run. In ” Parrot in the Oven,” Manny is trying to better than the rest of his family. but because of the choices they made it made him feel like he can’t be anything so he joins a gang. The artist in the song “Praying” states that ” …You brought me through flames and you put me through hell” to show that the relationship had some serious problems and caused her emotions to spew out of her. Also it says “I hope you find your peace” and this is saying that she doesn’t wish bad upon him and means she is a better person now. In both text both characters are negatively affected by their relationships with others.
Although they both deal with relationships they are still different.
In “Praying” she is dealing with a boyfriend relationship. But in “Parrot in the Oven” it is talking about his family. You only get one family but you can find a million other boyfriends/girlfriend. Also in my book it is talking about how violence plays an important role in your future and present life. This is how the two writings show strong differences.
In both “Parrot in the Oven” and “Praying” Victor Martinez and Kesha articulates the importance of dealing with your sorrow and forgiving others. After studying both of them I found that they are very similar in a lot of other ways I didn’t mention. The reader might conclude that this was an important theme in both the book and the song.
